The Most Vegan-Friendly Coffee Shops in Seattle

The Most Vegan-Friendly Coffee Shops in Seattle

One thing is for certain: Seattle has no shortage of coffee shops. And sure, you can find oat milk in pretty much all of them.

But sometimes you want to find a coffee shop with just a little more to offer. Good coffee, yes - but in a cozy, inviting space, and maybe even food options that go beyond a plain bagel.

This guide highlights my favorite vegan-friendly coffee shops in Seattle that check all the boxes: thoughtfully sourced coffee, great ambiance for lingering or catching up with a friend, and real, satisfying food options!

Whether that’s hearty breakfast sandwiches or tasty pastries, these are the spots I actually return to, recommend to friends, and bring out-of-towners when I want to show off how good Seattle coffee culture can be. Grab your reusable cup and let’s get into it.

CAFE RED

Othello

Café Red is the coffee shop that just gets it. Probably because they’re the only fully vegan coffee shop in town (if we aren’t counting fully vegan donut shops or restaurants that also serve coffee).

And yes, Cafe Red makes great coffee, using Seattle roaster Fulcrum Coffee. But it’s the food that keeps us coming back, especially their seriously delicious vegan breakfast sandwiches and their hashbrown avocado toast(!), which is peak cozy comfort. Everything feels thoughtful, filling, and made with care.

They’re right off the light rail (Othello Station) making it easy to get to from Capitol Hill, University District, and other neighborhoods. And beyond breakfast, they play host to evening events like open mics and community events that make the space feel like a true neighborhood hub. Café Red isn’t just a place to grab coffee, it’s a spot that feeds people well and brings people together.

PS: If you love Cafe Red’s breakfast sandwiches but aren’t close by, they started a wholesale line called Based Foods that is making its way into coffee shops across the city. Many are featured below, so read on!

Peloton Cafe Bike Shop

Central District

Wait - is it a coffee shop or a bike repair shop? Yes.
Peloton is the genius pairing of two Seattle favorites, coffee and bicycles. With a mechanic on site four days a week, you can stop in for a tune-up or schedule a drop-off for repairs. But you don’t have to have a bike issue to stop in, of course. This neighborhood cafe serves great coffee and even has a fully loaded food menu with breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, even cocktails! And vegan options are aplenty here. Peloton is one of those unique spots in the city you just have to experience.

AVOLE

Central District + University District

Avole (pronounced ah-BOL) is an Ethiopian term for the first, strongest, and freshest cup of coffee, marking the beginning of social bonding and conversation. As an Ethiopian American growing up in Seattle and enjoying coffee rituals at home and with community, owner Solomon Dubie noticed the city’s coffee culture was lacking an Ethiopian representation, so he created it. Avole aims to be more than just another coffee spot, but a place to honor coffee’s true origins, build community, and serve as a space for the entrepreneurial spirit to thrive.

Beyond coffee, Avole also serves Based Foods breakfast sandwiches!

Central Cafe & Juice Bar

Central District

Central Cafe & Juice Bar, which opened in early 2020, is a warm and welcoming place to grab coffee, fresh juices, smoothies, a hefty breakfast burrito, and vegan pastries.

This Black-owned, woman-owned, and vegan-friendly business is located in the heart of the Central District, in a historically Black-owned building close to Garfield High School. This area is becoming more gentrified by the day, so the cafe is not only a cozy cafe, it’s an act of beautiful resistance.

As an eco-conscious business owner, Bridgette Johnson purchased all furnishings secondhand via Habitat For Humanity ReStore and Second Use. This is also why she offers many plant-based options on the menu. How amazing is that?
