Where To Get A Blissful Slice Of Vegan Cheesecake In Seattle

Where To Get A Blissful Slice Of Vegan Cheesecake In Seattle

Written by Martha Gavinski

Whatever your eating habits, cheesecake is one of those words that triggers an immediate Pavlovian response.

At the word alone you can practically taste the sumptuous, dreamy texture with hints of tang and fruit-sweetness (or perhaps your mind drifts more toward rich, drippy chocolate and caramel).

At first glance, cheesecake is also one of those treats that you might think is difficult to veganize, but lo the Seattle cheesecake gods have been gracious and gifted us with a variety of amazing options from local vegan chefs and business owners.

While this list is by no means comprehensive, each offers a picture of how many different ways you can get vegan cheesecake right now.

Blueberry

Cheesecake from

Loving Hut

International District

You’ll find Loving Hut tucked away between pho shops and tea houses in the International District. While fully enmeshed in the ID community, Loving Hut is actually part of a chain of vegan restaurants with dozens of locations across the US and many parts of Asia.

Loving Hut boasts an expansive menu of savory offerings, both their vegan blueberry cheesecake and their chocolate mousse cake captures the harmony of sweet, tangy, and wobbly texture that you’d crave.

Their walnut and cashew crust creates a pleasant grounding for the layers of soy-based coconut and blueberry filling. At $6.98 the Loving Hut cheesecake was priced on par with others that we tasted and offered the most traditional cheesecake flavor. Visit Loving Hut

Blackberry

Avocado Cheesecake

from Plum Bistro

Capitol Hill

While we still mourn the loss of Sugar Plum bakery, Plum Bistro has kept its spirit alive through excellent, rotating dessert options.

Chef Makini Howell’s incredible contributions to the Seattle food scene cannot be understated, and her sweets alone are a celebration of the pure joy and playfulness that comes with a seriously good dessert.

The seasonal flavor du jour that we tried was a soy-based avocado blackberry cheesecake. The avocado lends a decadent texture with a vivid and playful hue. The graham cracker base was delightfully crumbly, and a grounding balance to the fluffy, creamy top layer.

Unlike the others that we tried, Plum’s cheesecake was lightly baked, which left a sweet, caramelized layer on top reminiscent of a traditional Basque cheesecake. Priced affordably at $6.50, you can try it every day during Plum Bistro’s lunch and dinner service, or during brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Visit Plum Bistro

Dark Chocolate

Salted Caramel Pure Pie from Heartbeet

Queen Anne & West Seattle

The menu at Heartbeet Superfood Cafe is packed with trendy, nutritious components ranging from spirulina to maca. They seem to have found the sweet spot between those wellness ingredients and super approachable offerings - after all, who doesn’t want to drink a Cookie Monster smoothie?

Among the smoothies, juices, and savories, Hearbeet offers a selection of locally-made Pure Pies, which are fully raw, gluten-free, and dairy-free pies made with paleo-friendly sweeteners (like dates and maple syrup - no refined sugars!).

Though not technically billed as a vegan cheesecake, these pies have the same drool-worthy texture and extravagance you’d expect.

It's hard to choose just one flavor between the nine available, but the Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel truly delivers. With an almond-coconut crust laying a solid ground for bittersweet chocolate and maple syrup caramel, a single slice satisfies every imaginable chocolate craving.

Heartbeet offers both 4.5-inch slices ($8) and full 9-inch pies ($75) available for pick up from both locations. They’re open every day from 9 AM - 8 PM, so they can be enjoyed as a dessert or an excellent breakfast option.

Visit HeartBeet Organic Superfoods Cafe

You can also find slices of Pure Pies at Razzi's Pizzeria in Greenwood and downtown!
