Seattle's Newest Vegan Grocery Store Seeks Community Support To Fund Its Grand Opening

Seattle’s new vegan grocery store, Isle of Plants, is seeking community funding via Kickstarter ahead of their grand opening.

The goal is $15,000, and with roughly 30% of the goal met, it’s a race against time to meet the goal before the campaign ends on October 24th.

The funding will be used to cover final permit costs, shelving, initial inventory, refrigeration units, and a POS system.

Owners Michelle and Hayden have signed onto a 3-year lease in the Pioneer Square space, with plans to grow and launch other locations in the not-too-distant future.

Isle of Plants will stock all-vegan grocery and pantry items, as well as vegan clothing and merchandise. The owners also intend to use the space as a community hub for events, cooking classes, and more.

The store is located downtown on Alaskan Way, and does not have its own designated parking lot. However, it’s a promising location for public transit riders and pedestrians with its many close connections.

Isle of Plants is just a few minutes walk from the ferry terminals, the West Seattle Water Taxi, and Seattle’s iconic Pier 57. It’s also a 7-minute walk from Pioneer Square’s light rail station; and with Seattle’s recent light rail expansion, it’s a mere 20 minutes or less to get to Pioneer Square from Northgate, Ravenna, and University District.

Should you prefer or need a car, there is street parking available in the area as well as pay-to-park lots.

Despite the pandemic, Seattle’s vegan-friendly community helped to successfully crowdfund for other vegan businesses including a brick-and-mortar space for Cycle Dogs, as well as Latinx-owned bakery and cultural center Lazy Cow Bakery.

Seattle’s vegan community is clearly hungry for more vegan options, and currently has no dedicated vegan grocery store, after Vegan Haven closed its doors back in 2020.

The Isle of Plants team hopes that their grocery and community space concept resonates with locals, and that that the demand for an all-vegan space can meet their funding needs.
