Cafe Red Will Close Temporarily To Expand Kitchen

It seems that word finally got out that Cafe Red in Othello has one of the best vegan breakfast sandwiches in Seattle. And though this is great for their business, it means that Cafe Red must close temporarily to make expansions to their 100 square-foot kitchen in order to meet this growing demand for food.

Cafe Red switched to a 100% plant-based food menu in 2020. And despite the pandemic, the humble cafe saw their food sales skyrocket. “Food used to be 25% of our business, but with the new menu food has become 75% percent.”

This comes as no surprise, if you’ve ever had their Pesto Breakfast Sandwich. It’s made with their specialty house-made pesto, housemade egg patty, smoked Violife provolone, tomatoes, greens, cherry peppers on locally-baked bread.

Their Deluxe Hash Brown, a giant hash brown patty topped with avocado slices and their top-secret seasoning blend, is a favorite among patrons as well.

Much of their menu is gluten-free friendly, and their specialty coffee drinks like Cold Brew Lemonade are not to be missed. But they will be missed dearly during the short-term closure.

The must-needed changes will allow the cafe to serve food faster and more efficiently. “During this closure we will be rebuilding our kitchen to double the current size and capacity. This will enable us to keep serving [our patrons] great vegan breakfast food, quickly and consistently.”

Cafe Red will close temporarily, beginning Sunday, August 29th, with no firm re-open date just yet. For now, you can support Cafe Red by purchasing a gift card online, and redeem once they re-open.
